This special event is in partnership with Toei Animation.

Based on the Digital Monster (Digimon) virtual pet toy created in 1997, the Digimon anime franchise encompasses numerous TV series and films as well as a trading card game, video games, comics, light novels and drama CDs. The original TV series Digimon Adventure premiered in 1999 and introduced the world to a group of young, hopeful heroes brought together to save both the real and digital worlds. The series went on to earn acclaim for its blending of deep narrative arcs and human drama against a backdrop of warring fantastical monsters. Now 25 years later, the Digimon franchise is more popular than ever. And just last year, Toei Animation released the latest film from the franchise, Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning, a contemporary continuation of the Digimon Adventure 02 series.

Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna takes place five years after the events of the six-part film series Digimon Adventure tri. Now on the cusp of adulthood, Tai and his DigiDestined friends discover that with age their bonds with each of their Digimon will ultimately break. How does it end for Tai, Agumon and the others?

Produced as a special 20th anniversary feature film, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna was originally slated for U.S. release in March 2020, but due to the pandemic, the movie never made it to North American theaters. Now, however, as part of a special Digimon 25th Anniversary Celebration, Toei Animation and Japan Society are bringing Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna to the big screen—as it was always meant to be seen.

Join Japan Society for a one-night-only screening of Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna featuring a special in-person introduction by Hiromi Seki, Toei Animation producer and the film’s supervisor.

The Digimon 25th Anniversary Celebration includes:

  • Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna Screening with Honored Guest Hiromi Seki
  • Special Giveaways:
    • Digimon Comic Volume #1 copy for all attendees
    • Digimon Card Game card for all attendees
  • Interactive Experiences:
    • Digimon Photo Op
    • Digimon Display from Bandai Tamashii Nations

Doors Open at 6:00 PM for the Digimon Photo Op, Digimon Display and Giveaways. Screening begins at 7:00 PM.

About Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna:
Tai is now a university student, living alone, working hard at school, and working every day, but with his future still undecided. Meanwhile, Matt and others continue to work on Digimon incidents and activities that help people with partner Digimon. An unprecedented phenomenon occurs and the DigiDestined discovers that when you grow up, your relationship with your partner Digimon will come closer to an end. As a countdown timer activates on the Digivice, they realize that the more you fight with your partner Digimon, the faster their bond breaks. Will you fight for others and lose your partner? The time to choose and decide is approaching fast. There is a short time before the “chosen children” will become adults. This is the last adventure of Tai and Agumon.

Dir. Tomohisa Taguchi, 2020, 94 min., DCP, color, in Japanese with English subtitles. With Natsuki Hanae, Yoshimasa Hosoya, Chika Sakamoto, Mayumi Yamaguchi.
