Ready your pens. Ignite your curiosity. Unleash your imagination as you charge into the mind-bending world of WWII propaganda art. Prepare to analyze history, graphic style, and artistic techniques used by artists to communicate ‘calls to action’ and the shaping of public perception and views.  Examine, investigate and discuss design choices, visual communication techniques, and the impact of WWII’s most persuasive propaganda art including film, comic strips, and poster art. Students utilize these techniques to curate and produce visual messages and illustrated artwork that express the complexity of these mediums and the message portrayed in Japan, the US, as well as German and other nations impacted by the War. As a culminating event, the Student Exhibition will display selected curated and created artwork. The exhibition will be open to family members and the general public.

Stories from the War
Marking the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, Japan Society presents the Society-wide series Stories from the War. Encompassing theater performances, film screenings, lectures, panels and educational opportunities for young people, programming from January to August explores history and considers challenging issues that the U.S. and Japan faced surrounding WWII through a contemporary lens.

Stories from the War is supported by a generous grant from the Japan-United States Friendship Commission.
