Anxiety and Hope in Japanese Art – Members’ Visit to the Met

Japan Society along with our host, John T. Carpenter, Mary Griggs Burke Curator of Japanese Art at The Met, cordially invite our Giving Circle members to join us for a private tour at The Met’s current exhibition Anxiety and Hope in Japanese Art.

From the Zen Buddhist concept of None Whatsoever to the twin themes of anxiety and hope in art and art making, join us for a curator-led tour of The Met’s current exhibition, Anxiety and Hope in Japanese Art, drawn largely from their renowned collection of Japanese art. Coupled with your experience at Japan Society’s Spring Exhibition, this opportunity will provide a unique and complex layer of understanding of the profound human emotions explored in these artistic expressions. Created across the centuries, whether religious, or philosophical, the exhibition features various forms of traditional and contemporary Japanese art.

The is an off-site event and will take place on Monday, June 17, at 3:30 pm at The Met Fifth Avenue at 1000 Fifth Avenue, New York City.
