Japan’s capital markets, along with its economy, experienced rejuvenation marked by a significant increase in market liquidity this past year. However, like the global financial industry, traditional business models for global exchanges are facing significant external pressures. The Tokyo Stock Exchange, Asia’s leading exchange, is enhancing its market functions and reshaping its business, including a substantial increase in system capacity. The coming years will likely bring fundamental changes in the competitive landscape among major global exchange markets. Tokyo Stock Exchange President & CEO Taizo Nishimuro outlines TSE’s perspective as it strives to meet the demands of global financial markets and match the dynamic pace of U.S. and European frontrunners.
