Japanese Art from Calligraphy to Manga

Workshop: Monday-Friday, August 19-23, 2013, 10:00 am-4:30 pm
Art opening: Saturday, August 24, 12:00 pm-4:30 pm (for students) 2:00-4:00 pm (for guests)
 
Create and learn about Japanese art this summer! Artists and arts educators lead hands-on workshops on topics such as printmaking, calligraphy, manga and mask-making. During the intensive weeklong program, aspiring artists and art aficionados will create artwork, learn about Japanese art history and meet artists and experts in the field. The workshop culminates in a student-run art opening and reception for friends and family. Open to students entering 9th-12th grade in Fall 2013. No prior art experience necessary.
 
Eligibility

  • Participants must be high school students as of September 2013.
  • Participants must attend all of the scheduled workshop sessions and the art opening (8/19-23, 10 am-4:30 pm and 8/24, 12:00-4:30 pm).

Application Form & Deadline
Please submit the general application form (PDF) by Friday, June 21, 2013. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Space is limited and advanced registration is advised. Applications will be accepted after this date subject to space availability.
 
Tuition
$250/$230 Japan Society members, includes materials and lunch. A limited number of full and partial tuition waivers are available (Tuition Waiver Application Form PDF).
