Here is how to say some of the common movie genres in Japanese.

時代劇 jidaigeki (period drama)　
犯罪 hanzai (crime)
伝記 denki (biographical)
コメディ (comedy)
ホラー (horror)
ロマンス (romance)
アクション (action)
ドキュメンタリー (documentary)
アニメーション (animation)

Jidaigeki includes チャンバラ chanbara (samurai sword-fighting)
