The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) was created in 2002 to improve the quality and transparency in financial reporting and independent audits, advance corporate responsibility, and further the public interest. William McDonough became Chairman of the PCAOB on June 11, 2003, joining the Board after 10 years as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He discusses the work of the PCAOB as it refines its mandate, including new audit standards under consideration, and how the PCAOB will affect accounting standards worldwide.
