Join us for a Shodo: Japanese Calligraphy Trial Lesson! Our shodo instructors will introduce and demonstrate different styles in hiragana and kanji. This lesson is structured for students at any level. No Japanese language experience is required.

Wednesday, January 18, 4—5 PM with Asai-sensei
Thursday, January 19, 6—7 PM with Takemori-sensei (Session is full; to be added to the waitlist, please call 212-715-1269)

Admission: $5 (cash only)
Students who register for this trial lesson will also receive $5 off when registering for a Spring Shodo class. Students who register for a Spring Japanese course and Shodo course will receive a discount.

About the Instructors:

Sanae Asai (Master Suiho) is a licensed Japanese calligrapher (issued in 1996 by the Calligraphy Institute of Daitobunka University in Japan). She has taught calligraphy for 13 years in schools and cultural institutes in the New York area, including The New School, the Long Island Japanese Culture Center, the Japanese American Society of New Jersey, The Japanese Weekend School, and the Hammond Museum, as well as at her own private studio.

Tsuyoshi Takemori (Master Biho)
has over 30 years of teaching experience in Japanese Calligraphy and has served as the Director of Calligraphy for the Kampo Cultural Center, Inc. in the US. Recently, he has worked at the Japan Calligraphy Center International, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Literature from Ryukyu University in Okinawa, Japan.
