A Life of White Porcelain: Living National Treasure Ceramist Manji Inoue

Japanese ceramist Manji Inoue was appointed a Living National Treasure by the Japanese government in 1995. He has been creating porcelain since 1945, beginning his studies under Sakaida Kakiemon XII in Arita, Saga Prefecture at the age of 16. True to the declaration that "form is beauty," Inoue’s style consists only of white porcelain even though the majority of Arita ware is colorful, and his work’s harmony has given birth to a new tradition. Mr. Inoue speaks about his work and the importance of preserving the craft of ceramics for the future.
