Membership
You have the option of purchasing or renewing a membership online, in person at the Welcome Desk, or by calling our Membership office at (212) 715-1270. If you are also planning to register for classes in our Language Center, we recommend speaking with them directly to register and purchase a membership at (212) 715-1269. Our facilities accept credit cards, personal checks and cash. We send several renewal notices via mail and email leading up to the membership expiration date. Physical notices include renewal forms that are enclosed with a prepaid envelope.
*If you are renewing your membership online, make sure to login to your account first to avoid creating duplicate records in our system.
Yes. If you would like to send a membership to someone as a gift, you can call our Membership office at (212) 715-1270, and a representative will assist you. Please note that memberships take time to process so if you are hoping to have this gift in time for a special event, please give our team enough notice to accommodate your request. At least 10 business days is suggested.
Japan Society memberships are valid for one year as of the month you joined or renewed. The expiration date can be found on the back of your membership card and under Membership Details after you log into your account. You can also call our Membership office at (212) 715-1270 or email at [email protected] to inquire.
A digital membership card will be sent to your email within a few minutes of activating or renewing your membership. For those of you interested in receiving a printed membership card, you can request one by contacting us at [email protected] when you renew your membership. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.
Website: To purchase a Young Adult/Senior/Person with Disabilities membership, please select “Join or Renew” on our membership page. You’ll be directed to our ticketing site where you can select the membership level you desire. After selecting the membership level, scroll down and fill out the form before adding the membership to your order. Once you add the membership to your order, it should appear in the Order Summary window on the right side of the screen. You can enter the appropriate discount code for your membership by clicking on “Add discount code”, type the code into the textbox that appears and select “Apply” when done. Click on “Proceed to Checkout” to complete the transaction.
We offer $20 off on Friends memberships for Young Adults, Seniors, and Persons with Disabilities. Please enter the below coupon code in the Order Summary window to receive the $20 discount:

Person with Disabilities Coupon Code: ADAYou can also purchase a Young Adults/Senior/Person with Disabilities membership by calling (212) 715-1270, in-person at our Welcome Desk or by filling out the form enclosed in our renewal notices that is mailed to you. Our office may ask for supporting ID for Young Patron and Senior discounts. If asked for supporting documentation, please send a scanned copy to [email protected]. Also, please reach out to our Membership office directly if you have any questions about purchasing or renewing a membership.
Yes, you are still entitled to enjoy all your benefits without your membership card, as long as your current membership is valid. To request your new membership card, please contact our Membership team at (212) 715-1270 or [email protected]. To visit without your card, simply present your name and email when visiting our box office.
Our membership cards are not transferable. To request to add someone to your membership or to upgrade your membership, please contact our Membership team at (212) 715-1270 or [email protected].

Your membership ID is listed on your membership card and in your emailed receipt. You can also find your ID on your online account by selecting the account icon at the top right-hand corner of your screen. Click on ‘Membership Details’ in the drop-down menu and then a pop-up window will appear with your Membership Details.
Corporate members receive different benefits depending on the Corporation’s membership level. Corporate membership does not necessarily include all of the same benefits as an Individual membership. To find out more about your Corporate membership benefits, please call our Corporate Membership office at (212) 715-1250.
Box Office/Membership Account
Yes, you do have an account! Your account is automatically created for you once you purchase a membership. If you want to login, please visit boxoffice.japansociety.org and look for the “Become A Member” text on the top right-hand side of the screen and then click on “Join Now”. The system will walk you through the rest of the process to purchase a membership. If you already have an account, be sure to log in to avoid creating duplicate records in our system and ensure that you receive the benefits you are entitled to. If you are having difficulty accessing your account, you can click “Forgot Password” to receive an email with steps to reset the password or email the Membership team at [email protected].
*Be sure to sign into your account before purchasing tickets to take advantage of your membership discounts and benefits. Your benefits will be automatically applied to your cart when you are logged in.
The allotted tickets you are allowed to purchase with the membership discount depends on your membership level. To see how many tickets each level is entitled to, visit our Membership page or reach out to us at [email protected].
Yes! Guests are able to enter the gallery for free, in addition to secondary and youth members. The guests you’re allowed to bring at no additional cost depends on your membership level.
Please note that Sustaining members and above are also entitled to unlimited $5 gallery admission for any guests outside of the allotted amount allowed by their membership. A breakdown is included below:

UnlimitedNo, guests will have to either purchase their own membership or register as a non-member.
Our current ticketing system does not allow the creation of multiple user accounts under the same membership, even if that membership has more than one member. Members that aren’t the primary cardholder must use the same login credentials as that individual to use their membership benefits, which would have to be shared by the account holder.
You can reset your password by calling our Membership office at (212) 715-1270 or click “Forgot Password” on the Sign In screen. A link will be sent to your email address and you will be able to set a new password by following the link.
In the case that your login information is not recognized by the system, or it indicates that your username is already in use, please contact the Membership office at (212) 715-1270 or [email protected].

You can visit our eNewsletters page to indicate your area(s) of interest and subscribe to our enewsletters. All Japan Society members receive the members-only eNewsletter with notifications about perks, events, and offers related to your membership. We recommend members indicate which program areas they are interested in to receive program announcements and other tailored updates.
Periodically, members will receive special notifications about perks, events, and offers related to your membership. Please watch your email to make sure you stay up-to-date on your membership offerings.
