Immerse yourself in an extraordinary evening of traditional Japanese music with NYC-based artist Marco Lienhard at Globus Washitsu—a serene Kyoto-style tatami room and ryokan. Experience the haunting melodies of the fue (笛), a series of traditional Japanese bamboo flutes with roots in ancient Shinto rituals and court music.
This exclusive members-only event in May presents Marco Lienhard, an accomplished composer and solo performer of the Fue, Shakuhachi and Taiko. With 18 years of experience in Japan as a member of the esteemed Ondekoza Taiko group, Lienhard brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to his performances. His time with Ondekoza, under the guidance of Founding Director Tagayasu Den, has significantly shaped his artistic vision and approach to traditional Japanese music.
Lienhard’s impressive career includes a remarkable three-year, 9,000-mile journey around the United States with Ondekoza, performing Taiko in communities along the way. He has also showcased his talents as a soloist with the New York City Opera and the Juilliard New Music Ensemble, and has graced stages at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Suntory Hall and Tchaikovsky Hall.
As the Director of New York-based ensembles Taikoza and East Winds, Lienhard continues to share his passion for traditional Japanese instruments through his compositions and performances, which can be heard on numerous CD releases.
Before the performance, enjoy a traditional tea ceremony with seasonal Japanese sweets, followed by a selection of sushi and sake.
