This Spring:

  • Learn about the delectable Japanese soul food, ramen, its food culture and the ascendance of Ippudo in the New York food scene from The Ramen King: Ippudo's Shigemi Kawahara on February 28.

  • Celebrate Japanese traditional holidays at Japan Society! We offer six annual family festivals throughout the year, including Oshogatsu, Kodomo No Hi, and Tanabata. Coming up next is Hinamatsuri on March 5 - a doll festival to celebrate the health and happiness of young girls with songs, festival-related food and activities.

  • Open March 10 through June 11, 2017, Japan Society Gallery will present A Third Gender: Beautiful Youths in Japanese Prints, the first exhibition in North America devoted to the portrayal of wakashu, or beautiful youths.

  • Also on March 10, catch a special screening of Mabarosi. The first narrative feature by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Mabarosi is a contemplative and poetic film about loss and the ever-present specter of death.

  • Calling all monster movie enthusiasts for an evening filled with your favorite marches, melodies, vibes and reverbs from the Japanese cult classic Godzilla on April 28! This concert showcases the remarkable range of music composed by Akira Ifukube, who was known for creating some of the most memorable aural moments in cinematic history.

  • Participate in an array of programs from our Language Center, including immersive Japanese language classes for students of all levels, Nihongo Chat and shodo workshops.

Your membership enables Japan Society to present all of these programs and more at affordable prices for those yearning to learn more about Japan. Membership gives you exclusive benefits, invitations to special events and discounts on hundreds of performances, films, lectures and classes.

We look forward to seeing you at Japan Society!
