The past year has seen drastic fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, particularly between the U.S. and Japanese currencies. The surging dollar has far-reaching effects, both creating opportunity and causing concern, globally. What do these fluctuations tell us about the state of the economies of the U.S., Japan, and the greater world? What hints do they hold for developments in the global economy in the coming year? Join us as Japan Society and Nikkei America co-host a wide-ranging panel discussion examining these questions and the interplay between foreign exchange, monetary policy, and the on-the-ground reality and future prospects of the global economy.

Panelists:
Eisuke Sakakibara, Professor, Aoyama Gakuin University; President, the Institute for Indian Economic Studies; former Japanese Vice Minister of Finance
Edwin M. Truman, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Peterson Institute for International Economics; former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury for International Affairs
Allen Sinai, Chief Global Economist/Strategist, Decision Economics, Inc.

John Bussey
, Associate Editor, The Wall Street Journal
