Elementary school groups are invited to join a live theater performance of Momotaro (Peach Boy), a classic folktale widely read by children in Japan.

This interactive play will explore the young warrior’s' quest to find the hidden truth of personal and universal harmony as well as compassion through interactive songs, dance, Japanese martial arts, and live music of traditional Japanese drums and flutes, performed by Crossing Jamaica Avenue. The project aims to raise awareness of importance of diverse cultural experiences among young audiences.

Japan Society Education Program staff will hold a pre-theater session as an essential part of the program, and will be conducted at participating schools prior to May 8.

The program is not open to the general public or individual students but is designed for invited elementary school groups only.

Theater presentation is partially adapted from Momotaro, written by Tadashi Matsui, illustrated by Suekichi Akaba, published by Fukuinkan Shoten Publishers, Inc., 1965.
